Ecorigin Achieves BPI Home Compostability Certification Milestone for Paper Plates and Bowls
Aug. 24, 2026

Ecorigin is pleased to announce an important milestone in our continued journey toward developing more sustainable foodservice and packaging solutions.

Selected products from our foodservice range have achieved BPI Commercial Compostability Certification and BPI Home Compostability Certification, providing businesses with independently certified options as they explore more sustainable alternatives for their operations.

The certificates also verify that the certified items contain no intentionally added organic fluorinated substances, including PFAS as a processing aid.

This milestone reflects our continued commitment to material innovation and product development, creating practical foodservice solutions that combine functionality, performance, and more sustainable end-of-life options.

Certified Foodservice Products

Our latest BPI certifications cover two product groups.

1. White Coated and Uncoated Paper Plates and Bowls

Our certified paper-based product range includes:

  • White Coated Paper Bowls and Plates with CMYK Printing

  • White Uncoated/Unprinted Paper Plates

  • Maximum grammage: 352 gsm

This achievement marks an important milestone for Ecorigin. Ecorigin is the first company globally to achieve BPI Home Compostability Certification for these certified paper plate and bowl products.

By achieving both commercial and home compostability certification within the applicable certified product scope, these products provide businesses with additional confidence when selecting compostable foodservice solutions.

2. White Foam Plates — A New Material Innovation

Alongside our paper-based products, our newly developed White Foam Plates have also achieved BPI Home Compostability Certification.

The innovation behind this product lies primarily in the material. Made primarily from cornstarch-based materials, the plates are manufactured using a conventional foaming and mold-forming process to create a lightweight and functional solution for disposable foodservice applications.

The certified product scope includes:

  • White Foam Plates

  • Maximum thickness: 2,878 microns

  • Maximum grammage: 698 gsm

The development of this product demonstrates how material innovation can open up new possibilities for everyday foodservice products. By exploring alternative materials while maintaining functionality and performance, we continue to expand the range of options available to businesses pursuing their sustainability goals.

What This Means for Businesses

As sustainability expectations continue to evolve, businesses are increasingly reviewing the materials used throughout their operations—from foodservice products and packaging to procurement and waste management practices.

For food and beverage businesses, hospitality operators, caterers, retailers, and other organisations, independently certified products can provide additional confidence when evaluating alternative material solutions.

Our newly certified product range offers:

  • Independently Certified Compostability

Products assessed under recognised BPI certification requirements for commercial and/or home compostability, depending on the specific certified product.

  • Material Innovation

A growing range of solutions exploring alternatives to conventional materials, including our newly developed cornstarch-based White Foam Plates.

  • PFAS Assurance

The certificates verify that the certified items contain no intentionally added organic fluorinated substances, including PFAS as a processing aid.

  • Practical Foodservice Applications

Lightweight and functional solutions designed for everyday disposable foodservice applications.

  • More Options for Sustainability Goals

A broader range of independently certified solutions for businesses reviewing material choices and incorporating compostable products into their sustainability strategies.
